A family haven in the Heart of the Alentejo
Welcome to Herdade dos Alfanges: a place to slow down, reconnect, and feel at home.

We’re Andrea and Andreas, originally from Switzerland, and after three decades of living and traveling across Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America with our four children, we found our home here in Portugal.

A few years ago, we discovered Herdade dos Alfanges: a historic farm among olive groves, cork trees, and oak woodlands in the Alentejo countryside. It’s a quiet, spacious place where families and friends can relax, children can run free and time slows down. We welcome you to come discover the rhythms of rural life and unwind under the bright Alentejo stars.

We welcome guests into two lovingly restored houses, The Farmhouse and The Barn, originally built in early 1600. Designed for families, groups of friends, and retreats, there is space for up to 16 people and they offer everything you need for longer stays: fully equipped kitchens, spacious living areas, private terraces, and a shared pool surrounded by wild nature. Each stay is self-catered, giving you the freedom to set your own pace and settle in like it’s your own home. The farm is located just 1.5 hours by car from Lisbon, 30 minutes from Évora, and 2 hours from the Algarve. You can reach us easily by train or car.

We produce Berger Da Baronia olive oil, an organic, extra-virgin olive oil on our farm and provide guided tours and tastings if you are interested in learning about the process of making olive oil. You can also book a tour without staying in our guesthouses.
Over the years, our home has become a gathering place for guests from all over the world. We speak English, German, French, and Portuguese fluently. Whether you book to stay for a week or longer, we’ll welcome you warmly and help make your time here memorable. Many arrive as guests and leave as friends. We look forward to meeting you.
